Carpet Cleaning Facts
is the air starting to smell stale?
Why? Pollutants in the air filter down into the carpet this is referred to as "filtration soil", often resulting in a black line running all around the carpet where it meets the base boards, black outlines around furniture and desks etc. Filtration soil is super difficult to remove so proper cleaning habits are imperative to the lifespan and appearance of the carpet before filtration soil and traffic wear become permanent and odor begins to develop.
Once the carpets natural filtering ability is hampered by really high concentrations of soil, and allergen levels climb, the body may produce histamines or display signs of allergic reactions. Having your carpets professionally cleaned every six months is highly recommended.
what is a premature wear pattern?
Soil, when it accumulates in a carpet acts like little knives cutting and scratching at the carpet fiber, grinding the expensive yarns down into those worthless fibers that fill your vacuum bag. The longer you wait between cleaning, the more damage is done. Carpet, if not maintained properly by vacuuming twice a week and professional extraction periodically, will quickly exhibit wear and unfortunately result in shaded, worn looking traffic lanes. This shading is considered damage and is irreversible. It is important to vacuum regularly and have carpets professionally cleaned every 6 months to extend the carpets life and appearance.
Like all textiles, carpets will eventually show signs of wear. The wear creates an illusion of soiling, which often causes frustration and misunderstanding between the homeowners and carpet care expert. Even though a carpet has been cleaned, it does not mean the traffic areas will look clean. Traffic areas are those places where people are constantly walking or working. This situation creates what is called "gray laning".
There is not a lot that a carpet care expert can do with traffic lane graying. When a 10-year old carpet is cleaned, you will end up with a clean 10-year old carpet. It may not appear the way you had hoped. The easiest way to slow down this process is by rearranging the furniture so traffic areas are changed or add area rugs.
Occasionally we get busy and just plain lose the battle with our pets and from time to time they may expel into the carpet causing an un-sanitary condition in the carpet, it doesn't just smell, it is un-healthy!
Bacteria will bloom in the affected areas and once the millions of bacteria complete their life cycle they will de-compose causing an odor. This is often ammonia gas (called-off gassing) caused by the decomposing bacteria.
The great news is we can help! We use the latest and greatest in technology and enviromentally friendly products. The product we use completely digests the odor causing bacteria and removes the odor source, as well as removes the bacteria.
Pet damage is a more complex bacterial contamination (sort of like mold growth in a home) that requires specialized treatment to combat the bacteria.
